Jiufen and Jinguashi were once rich in minerals like gold. And the abundant treasures resulted in various colorful stories forming the charms of these downtowns. Even thought the valuable gold and dream of being rich over night have been exhausted for a great deal time, priceless memories and shining cultures last forever. It is Gold Ecological Park where descendants could dig out Jiufen and Jinguashi in every angles for not gold but those memorable stories, topographic landscapes, geographic features, anything you should know before making golden dream true, etc. Plus, renovated Japanese-styled architectures are preserved and open to the public to get a glimpse of life styles in Japanese era and atmosphere.
Environmental Education Building is a place where visitor learn geography, flora and fauna of Jinguashi. Gold Refined Building offers opportunities to filter gold from minerals through water on your owns (100 NTD). Benshan Fith Tunnel gives you chances to become a part-time miner for fun(50 NTD). If you hope to discovery gold mines, visit Gold Building and get basic knowledge of this shining yellow treasure like how to refine it secretly, how to distinguish it from foolish gold, etc. Jin-shuei Special Exhibition Hall, as a telephone exchange during the Taiwan Metal Mining Corp era, held changeable exhibitions.
During Japanese occupation, they built unique houses with different purpose like Crown Prince Chalet for the Crown Prince planning a visit but failing and Four Joined Japanese-style Residences for high-level employees as a living house. The former one is a typical high-class Japanese building mixed with Western design features. And visitor might marvel at the creation and wisdom of designers and architects, that is how to make building into part of landscapes perfectly. The latter one is rare fine Japanese building with delicate wooden structures and layered wall boards preventing regular raining days in Jinguashi. Jinguashi Shinto Shrine/Gold Temple dedicates to the three Japanese’s deities protecting miners but in ruins now rewarding visitors with pleasing panorama of Jinguashi and feeling of solemn.
